NO NEED FOR TEARS, WE’RE FINE.
2014-2017
Alexis marks my first intersection within documentary as an archive dependent upon collective authorship
between artist and subject. Through personal journals, recorded social media, and photography, Alexis
and I built a panoptic gaze of her arduous existence. Alexis works as a stripper in Los
Angeles to support herself and her siblings, suffers from addiction and bipolar
disorder, and has been sporadically homeless since the age of 13. Alexis exposes the intricacies of humanizing a
stranger to an anonymous viewer.
